On May 11, the Disseny Hub Barcelona will bring together various figures rooted in the world of architecture to discuss the multiple roles of cities in the 21st century, the state of architecture and urbanism in contemporary society, and to present the Barcelona Protocol—a document developed throughout the day via the contributions of twenty-six international voices.
The Barcelona Protocol is an intensive symposium that presents a manifesto of intentions, outlining future goals and aspirations for the city through a series of lectures. Organized into seven panels (Public Space, Public Housing, Public Infrastructure, Public Culture, Public Education, Public Futures, and Public Visions), the event consists of presentations and roundtables to discuss the means and methods by which we build, conceive, and dream of cities, the urban realm, and the public sphere. Each speaker will present three reflections on "Re-Growth," the theme of this first edition of Model. Barcelona Architectures Festival, sharing key values and strategies to be considered in the production and articulation of knowledge at both local and international scales.
Copenhagen is the guest city for Model. Barcelona Architectures Festival in its capacity as the 2023 World Capital of Architecture. Consequently, the event will feature speakers from Copenhagen, as well as representatives from the 2020 World Capital of Architecture, Rio de Janeiro, alongside architects, urban planners, and policymakers from various cities around the world.
