Through June 9, 2019, Fundación PROA will host the exhibition "Design in Action. Contemporary Intersections." Curated by Martín Huberman, Olga Martínez, and María Laura Carrascal, the exhibition reflects on the presence of design in daily life, highlighting the multiplicity of aesthetics, viewpoints, and vital, substantial themes that reveal themselves and coexist in our present.
The selected projects cover three categories: Objects, Urbanism, and Fashion, questioning current quality of life as a common denominator and reclaiming the regional work of artisans through a contemporary lens.
Within the Urbanism section in Gallery 2, Martín Huberman reflects on the impact of laws on housing construction and the regulations legislated by the state for the development of urban culture. The complexity between law and the human experience is present in the work of a group of architects and artists who, through a series of projects, illustrate the tension between regulation and creativity.
Titled "Towards an Agenda," the exhibition aims to uncover the potential of design disciplines to develop their own agenda and, in doing so, articulate a position in the struggle for the cultural, social, and built future of the city, in contrast to speculative and political agendas. Structured under the umbrella of three main laws—the Zero Waste Law, the New Building Code of the City of Buenos Aires, and the Distributed Generation Law—it analyzes and studies the various factors triggered by their implementation.
