"Igbá Odù: The Strong Arms of Memory" opens on January 22nd at the Centro Cultural Correios.
A solo exhibition by artist Reitchel Komch explores questions surrounding the African diaspora in Brazil and Black heritage.
In "Igbá Odù: The Strong Arms of Memory," Reitchel Komch engages the viewer with narratives of the African diaspora in Brazil, as well as utopias for overcoming a social process historically harmful to the Black roots of our cultural formation. The opening will take place on January 22nd, starting at 4:00 PM, at the Centro Cultural Correios, in the city center.
Gods, myths, and legends surrounding time (Iroko)—lingering in places laconically reticent about their own ancestry—guide the artist in her search for self-knowledge, representation, and the redefinition of her social position, breaking paradigms and restructuring her psyche. Time (Orixá) is liberating, an agent of destiny that delivers accounts of the Black diaspora, enabling emotional recovery through a return to one's origins.
