On Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at 7:00 PM, Argument01: Sampling Contexts—published by DPA Prints and Ediciones Asimétricas—will be presented at Roca Gallery Madrid. The event will feature the series' curators and editors, invited participants (PYO, Taller de Casquería, and Gonzalo del Val), Enrique Encabo, and DJ Juanito Jones.
Sampling Contexts (the first issue of the Argument series) summarizes research on #sampling in architecture conducted during the 2017–2018 academic year at the Department of Architectural Projects (DPA) of the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid (ETSAM) at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). The document takes the form of a visual and written narrative that compiles work-related information, with a core body consisting of six events in the form of interactive dialogues that materialize the current state of architecture.
Sampling Contexts promotes reflection on what architecture is and how it is practiced today, revealing processes of work, management, and communication through contemporary logics such as cataloging, remixing, and assembly. The book features emerging European studios that reveal how they produce and reproduce their architecture—a valuable scenario that remains inaccessible despite living in a world of image oversaturation. Contributors include Jan De Vylder (DVVT, Silver Lion at the 2018 Venice Biennale, 2019 Mies van der Rohe Award finalist), Bruther (El Croquis 197, 2018), Maio, Arquitectura G, Gonzalo del Val, Taller de Casquería, PYO, Fake Industries, Luis Úrculo, and Guillermo Santomá. The publication also includes texts by Jesús Vassallo and Enrique Walker.
