The deadline for the national public competition for the requalification of the Senac building complex in downtown Belo Horizonte has been extended to February 15. The competition was launched last December by Senac in Minas and the Institute of Architects of Brazil (IAB). Participation is open to professionals, either individually or as the technical lead of an architecture and urbanism firm. The competition guidelines are available at www.concursoarquiteturasenacbh.com.br
Given the potential of the Senac building complex in Minas, the selection process seeks the best proposal that, while maintaining its contemporary character and adding new value, can engage with the historical and cultural contexts of the site, respecting the urban and architectural configuration of downtown Belo Horizonte. Among the challenges of improving internal and external infrastructure, the architectural program must include the site's educational environments: didactic kitchens, laboratories, classrooms, and studios, among others. Following the renovation, the unit's capacity will increase to nearly 2,000 students per shift.
