Architect and graphic artist Gilberto Tomé is launching the publication “Ó: Path, Road, Avenue” on February 17, 2018, from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, at 260 Carijós Street (at the corner of Avenida Santa Marina), in a warehouse located next to the CPTM Água Branca Station (Ruby Line 7).
The work will also be exhibited inside the station, with images pasted as posters [wheatpaste] along the boarding and alighting platforms. The exhibition at Água Branca Station, which shares the same name as the publication, will remain on view until March 24, 2018. The proposal to treat a book with the language of street posters naturally led to these two presentation formats in public, easily accessible spaces. A program of activities will take place during this period, including a graphic walk, an open drawing workshop, and a roundtable discussion.
The project
“Ó: Path, Road, Avenue” is an artist's book conceived and produced by Gilberto Tomé, an architect and graphic artist who has been researching and working on the transformation of the São Paulo landscape. In this project, the theme is Avenida Santa Marina, the oldest connection between the Água Branca and Freguesia do Ó regions, with origins dating back to the 17th century. Through this example, the project aims to highlight that many ancestral paths make up our contemporary journeys through the city, and that they can show us more landscapes than we believe we see.
