On June 11, Arq. Futuro—a platform for discussion on cities—and Insper invite you to a lecture by Pablo Lazo, director of integrated planning at ARUP, at the Insper campus in São Paulo. The event, which is open to the public, will explore the concept of resilience in urban planning, drawing on the experience of the 100 Resilient Cities initiative, supported primarily by the Rockefeller Foundation, with ARUP as one of its partner firms.
The 100 Resilient Cities partner network operates on several fronts with cities worldwide. Its activities include training local leaders, providing technical consulting to municipal governments, and developing, financing, and implementing resilience strategies. In this way, it helps cities adapt to handle both acute shocks and chronic stresses.
Resilience design aims to provide cities with strategies to mitigate risks such as the effects of climate change, flooding, landslides, congestion, air pollution, and a lack of affordable housing. This represents a holistic approach to urban planning that transcends the sectoral divisions of municipal management—such as mobility, housing, and infrastructure—to integrate information and strategies.
