Exhibition “Optchá - the road is the destination”

"Optchá - The Road is the Destination"
Katia Politzer presents new works inspired by Romani life; the solo exhibition opens on January 22 at the Centro Cultural Correios in downtown Rio.

In "Optchá: The Road is the Destination," Katia Politzer presents new works that reference the Romani culture of her ancestors and its role in shaping Brazilian identity—a contribution that has received little recognition until now. Ancestry, identity, migration, diaspora, syncretism, and respect for difference form the core of the human experience explored here.
The search for freedom, a connection to nature, keen intuition, and the celebration of life despite hardship and prejudice are the characteristics of the Romani soul that most interest the artist. Her approach to Romani culture includes aspects of their philosophy, traditions, rituals, and mysticism.
