This Saturday, May 28, and Sunday, May 29, the Día de los Patrimonios (Heritage Day) will take place, a cultural event that provides an opportunity to engage with the various manifestations and heritage assets present in Chile.
The Día del Patrimonio Cultural is a celebration established in April 1999 to promote public enjoyment, knowledge, and reflection regarding Chile's heritage. Over its 22-year history, it has become one of the most significant cultural events, annually drawing thousands of people to participate for free in a wide range of activities that allow them to learn about, commemorate, and enjoy the diverse heritage manifestations and assets found throughout Chile.
This initiative is coordinated by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage in collaboration with hundreds of public, private, and civil society organizations. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 Heritage Day was held in a virtual format, and since 2021, the event has adopted a hybrid model. In 2022, it was renamed Día de los Patrimonios to highlight and increase the visibility of the plurality of heritage and identities present in Chile, as well as the diversity of cultures, communities, and peoples who inhabit these territories and who define, value, and pass down different heritage manifestations and assets.
