On March 8, 2021, Simone Cadinelli Arte Contemporânea will open the exhibition "Rubble, Skins, Residue" to the public, featuring new works by artist Jeane Terra. These pieces were created using various unique techniques and processes she has developed over the past few years—including during the months of social isolation—taking as a starting point the rubble of houses in Pontal de Atafona, a beach in the northern region of Rio de Janeiro state that is being swallowed by the sea. The exhibition will occupy the entire gallery. In addition to the "dry paintings"—or "paint skins," a process she created and has since patented—and the "dry monotypes," the show will bring together sculptures, photographs, an embroidery piece, and two installations: a wall excavation and a window display facing Rua Aníbal de Mendonça in Ipanema.
Curated by Agnaldo Farias, the exhibition presents the poetic works of this unique artist, who explores the memory embedded in the wreckage of houses—and now, more ambitiously, entire city blocks. The works on display are the result of an immersion the artist undertook in Atafona in January 2020.
Agnaldo Farias, the exhibition’s curator and author of the critical text, noted during a virtual chat with the artist in December that he has followed Jeane Terra’s work "since she was just a promise." "Her work has great strength, and it is a privilege to take this journey through it," he says. He finds it "striking that her name is Jeane Terra [Earth], and that she has this very particular research." "I don’t believe in coincidences," he adds. "This idea of residue, skins, and rubble relates to construction and to an architecture that is reclaimed by the earth itself for the condition of ruin, so that this construction may return to the earth," he observes.
