Registration open for AndesWorkshop 2018

AndesWorkshop, led by Cazú Zegers and GrupoTalca, is now accepting applications for 2018. The initiative aims to explore the Andes Mountains (Chile), analyze their landscape, engage with their inhabitants and history, and understand their origins. The goal is to create a low-tech architectural monument in collaboration with architects, students, and local inhabitants, using minimal resources to achieve maximum spatial expression and thereby add value to the territory.

The project is divided into two phases: The first phase, running from May 15 to June 15, will focus on the "Umbral Plazoleta Negra" project, located in the Andean foothills of Santiago (Curva 22, Farallones sector). Under the auspices of the Fundación +1000, the "Gran Ruta de Santiago" project is being developed, which interprets the city of Santiago not through its built environment, but through its natural space contained within its Andean foothills. The project aims to reposition the city as the "Outdoor Capital of Latin America." We view the "Umbral de la Plazoleta Negra" as a foundational landmark—a poetic act that triggers this repositioning. The threshold serves as a ritual space, marking the sacred ground where one "takes off their shoes," asks permission from the APU, and makes offerings before entering the high-altitude sanctuary nestled in the Central Andes in silence and with respect. The project will be built in collaboration with local arrieros (muleteers), seeking to facilitate the transfer of knowledge through their local processes, using stone pircas and wood as the primary materials. There are 20 spots available for this first phase.
