Screening of the documentary "End of Season"

Fin de Temporada

Arquitectura en Corto invites you to the screening of Fin de Temporada, which will take place on Wednesday, May 7, at 7:00 PM at Espacio Arquia (c/ Tutor, 16, Madrid). This video essay explores the ruins of 41 abandoned water parks in Spain and Portugal, reflecting on the effects of the current economic model on water resources and leisure. It is part of a research project by Leonor Martín Taibo and Aida Navarro Redón, which also includes a book of the same title. The project began with two nearly simultaneous discoveries: first, an unexpectedly long list of abandoned water parks on the Iberian Peninsula; and second, a series of reports from the United Nations and the World Resources Institute, which warned in 2019 of the adverse future awaiting Spain, characterized by water stress five times the European average, a risk of extreme water poverty, and one million hectares in severe danger of desertification. Following the screening, we will discuss the current water situation in Spain and the solutions that architecture can provide. We will be joined by four architects: Mari Feli Fernández García, an urban planner and hydrogeologist specializing in the ethics of water resource management; Eva Gil Lopesino, co-director of elii [oficina de arquitectura]; Natalia López Matesanz, founding partner of Lahoz López arquitectos; and Leonor Martín Taibo, director of the short film Fin de Temporada.
