Alberto Ponis
Arquitectura en Corto invites you to the screening of the short film The Right Rock, which will take place on Wednesday, April 2, at 7:00 PM at Espacio Arquia (c/Tutor, 16, Madrid). The documentary explores the works of Italian architect Alberto Ponis scattered across northern Sardinia, the subject of the recently published El Croquis monograph, The Best Kept Secret. Ponis passed away last year at the age of 91, leaving behind a vast body of work comprising over 300 single-family homes, all defined by a unique character: a constant pursuit of balance with the landscape, respect for local culture, and total integration with the terrain's morphology. Why has his work remained largely unknown until the last decade? What inspires the admiration of major international architects like Jonathan Sergison or Liu Jiakun (2025 Pritzker Prize laureate), who have promoted several exhibitions on Alberto Ponis in Switzerland and China? To find out, we will hold a post-screening discussion with Annarita Zalaffi, a civil engineer, partner of Alberto Ponis, and a privileged witness to his passionate and meticulous work over 47 years; Corrado Cattinari, interior designer and director of the documentary The Right Rock; and Enrique Encabo, architecture researcher and critic, who, along with Inmaculada Maluenda, authored the essay Midsummer: Alberto Ponis's Mediterranean Adventure, published in El Croquis no. 227.
