Sergio Gonçalves Galeria in São Paulo opens its first group exhibition, exploring digital media in the works of Brazilian and international artists
The exhibition’s title, presented starting March 11 at the recently opened Sergio Gonçalves Galeria in a house on Alameda Gabriel Monteiro, is derived from Latin. “Ars, Artis. Techne, Digitalis.” follows the theme of this year’s DW! São Paulo Design Week, “Hands vs. Machine,” highlighting the interaction between technology and creativity in contemporary artistic production and design. In the gallery’s exhibition, art dealer Sergio Gonçalves brings together Brazilian and international artists from various backgrounds, whose works prompt reflection on the impact of digital media today. In its first participation in DW!, the gallery reinforces its position as a space for experimentation in Contemporary Art, opening its doors to new visual narratives in a constant pursuit of innovation.
For this curation, he selected artists who have experimented—and continue to experiment—with new modes of expression, bridging art and technology to create a dialogue between the human touch and machine precision. Figures such as Abraham Palatnik, Cruz-Diez, and Martha Boto, for instance, who pioneered new forms of expression by utilizing the innovations of their time, are part of this refined selection, which also includes other prominent names such as Bruce McLean, Julian Opie, Michael Craig-Martin, Vik Muniz, and Toyota.
