Demoler Buenos Aires is part of a series of surveys that Ignacio Unrrein has been conducting throughout the City of Buenos Aires, focusing on walking as an aesthetic practice and the recognition of urban "anarchitectures" in the vein of Gordon Matta-Clark.
In this project, developed in collaboration with Santiago Bengolea—with whom the artist worked on previous processes—the focus is on the party walls that are often revealed following the demolition of buildings. The exposed materials and textures evoke remnants of extinct moments. The patterns and colors traced on the ruined walls evoke cartographies of everyday existence: past architectures that bear witness to anonymous vestiges, traces of a bygone time, and historical realities on the verge of disappearing. At the same time, there is a striking mixture of personal styles, of mutating architectures, and of overlapping fragments of lives that reveal and conceal their own genealogy as the decades pass.
