On Thursday, September 13, at 7:00 PM, Cristián Donoso—one of the most prominent Chilean explorers today—will present the lecture "Exploring Climate Change in Patagonia," organized by the Universidad Finis Terrae School of Architecture.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place at the Association of Architectural Offices (AOA) Auditorium. During the lecture, Donoso—who has led over 50 major expeditions across Patagonia, Antarctica, the Arctic, and the Atlantic Ocean—will discuss their experience, focusing on a five-month kayak expedition conducted between 2007 and 2008 through the archipelagos and ice fields of Patagonia, where they documented the profound transformation climate change has wrought upon these landscapes. Additionally, the guest speaker will screen "Costa Perdida," a film about their 2016 expedition with Roger Rovira in search of the HMS Wager frigate, which was wrecked on the Patagonian coast in 1745. During this search, they discovered another wreck: the IMOCA 60 sailboat "Hugo Boss," which had been lost a thousand miles south of South Africa in 2006, 20,000 kilometers from where it was found.
This lecture is part of the "Arquitectura de Selección" series, organized annually by the Universidad Finis Terrae School of Architecture, which this year focuses on the theme of distance. On October 11, Manuel Sanfuentes and Marcelo Araya, faculty members at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso School of Architecture, will present on the "Travesía de Amereida."
