Through her firm, Base Studio, architect Bárbara Barreda develops a methodology for architectural design rooted in systemic thinking and unconventional geometric, material, and spatial formulations. By combining the potential of digital design with local, artisanal construction processes, she generates versatile and adaptable architectural systems.
She will discuss these topics during the open lecture "Mid-Tech Architectural Systems," which she will present at the Faculty of Architecture and Design at Universidad Finis Terrae—where she is also a faculty member—on Wednesday, April 27, at 12:30 PM. Bárbara Barreda is an architect and holds a Master of Architecture from the Architectural Association. She is a founding partner of BASE (basestudio.cl). Through the firm, she has been a finalist for YAP Constructo 8 and 9 and was invited to the main exhibition of the 2021 Venice Architecture Biennale. She is also the creator and co-director of the Architectural Association’s "Ring of Fire" Visiting School program. Previously, she served as Director of Ciudad Emergente and has collaborated with various architecture firms in Santiago and London, working on projects across Latin America, the United States, Europe, and Asia.
