As part of the activities for Archiprix Chile 2019 and Archiprix International 2019, Arna Mackic will deliver a lecture at the Auditorium of the School of Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urban Studies of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
Mackic is an architect and founder of Studio LA, as well as head of architectural design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie (Netherlands) and author of the book Mortal Cities & Forgotten Monuments (Park Books, 2016). Mackic investigates current social issues, the search for identity, contradictions between populations, mechanisms of exclusion, and the refugee experience, reflecting on these topics through words, writings, and architectural projects. Working at the intersection of architecture, art, and philosophy, she was described by the 2017 Maaskantprijs for Young Architects jury as: "a unifying voice that heals the wounds of the past without overlooking the scars."
Archiprix Chile and International 2019 are co-organized with the School of Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urban Studies of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of Chile. They are also sponsored by the HunterDouglas Awards, in collaboration with the Ministry of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, with the patronage of the Centro Cultural Estación Mapocho.
