8th {CURA} Award: Collective Housing for the 21st Century

The 8th {CURA} Prize continues the initiative of hosting idea competitions on themes aligned with current discussions in architecture, the city, and society, with a focus on contemporary Brazil. In a national and global context facing the many consequences of the global climate crisis, this year’s competition theme is Collective Housing for the 21st Century.

Objective
The competition invites participants to reflect on new ways of living in the city, focusing primarily on issues related to urban mobility, density, and bioclimatic efficiency. Proposals should address the following parameters:
• Urban design (relationship between the building and its surroundings)
• Bioclimatic performance
• Construction and operation
• Materials and resources (environmental performance)
• Socio-cultural factors
• Floor plan flexibility
• Creativity in apartment layout design
• Quality of life
To stimulate the broadest possible debate, the brief is simple, making every choice—such as the intervention site or construction system—a criterion for evaluation. There will be no Q&A sessions; therefore, if it is not written in the brief, take a risk.
