Carnival, São João festivals, team sports, and birthday parties in public squares are examples of celebrations and gatherings in streets and public spaces that have made a full comeback in 2022, following two years of strict restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Building on this, "Walking Week: The Return (to the streets)" (Semana do Caminhar: o retorno (às ruas)), organized by SampaPé! and partner organizations across Brazil, is promoting the #MuvucaNaRua photo contest. It invites citizens to share photos on social media of people enjoying themselves together outdoors once again.
Beyond just leaving the house, public activities are vital for people's physical and emotional health. According to the study "Access to public spaces during the pandemic" (SampaPé! and Metrópole 1:1, 2020), 73% of respondents missed socializing, 62% missed going for walks, and 61% missed attending cultural events.
