ISLA: International Young Architects Competition

XILOFOR invites architects under 40 to consider the kitchen as a creative case study, exploring how post-COVID-19 kitchen furniture can help develop new spatial scenarios that will influence its design.

The competition invites participants to rethink the kitchen through the design of a new ISLA (island)—a standalone piece of furniture that incorporates dimensions of work and a multiplicity of situations within the kitchen space. Conceived as an autonomous space, the ISLA will also serve as a hub where digital networks and connectivity converge with the tactile preparation of food, thereby creating new ways to relate to other areas of the home. In this way, concepts such as flexibility, multifunctionality, and spatial transformation—among others—will be incorporated.
