New award to recognize projects and initiatives that improve walking conditions in Brazilian cities
The first edition of the Walkable City Award, organized by SampaPé! with the support of ITDP Brazil and Walk21, will reward and highlight public sector efforts to improve walkability in Brazilian cities in recent years.
Walkability in cities gained more relevance in the context of the pandemic, bringing to the fore concepts like "15-minute cities," where people can access most daily services and rights within 15 minutes on foot or by bicycle from their homes, as well as actions to expand space for walking in streets, which were quickly implemented by various cities around the world.
