The work of Andrés Jaque has brought about a radical transformation in how architecture is understood, communicated, and practiced. Through microhistory, his work reveals architectures seemingly omitted from architectural histories, their archives, and their operational platforms. While grand narratives have focused on works, figures, and events that confirm the relationship between the discipline and power structures, Jaque emphasizes the role of human and non-human agents that operate in daily life and are fundamental to understanding contemporary spatial politics.
Mies y la gata Niebla is the first publication to collect the essays of Andrés Jaque and the platform he founded in 2003, Office for Political Innovation, from which he operates.
Andrés Jaque (Madrid, 1971) holds a PhD in Architecture from the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid (ETSAM) and is currently the director of the Advanced Architectural Design program at Columbia University in New York. In 2003, he founded the Office for Political Innovation, where he develops his proposals, which have been published in architectural theory journals such as Log, Perspecta, Threshold, and Volume, as well as architecture magazines including 2G, a+u, Arquitectura Viva, Bauwelt, Domus, El Croquis, and L’Architecture d’Aujourd’hui. Andrés Jaque received the Frederick Kiesler Prize (2016); among his numerous other distinctions, notable awards include the Silver Lion for the best project at the 14th Venice Architecture Biennale (2014) and the Dionisio Hernández Gil Prize (2006).
