In defense of Modernity and against all robotic classicism and buffoonish romanticism, Miranda has always been an uncomfortable presence—a resistor who understands the value of the sedimentation of structured thought and knows that one must preach constantly. A committed intellectual during cloying times when the most pedestrian discipline took over the classrooms, his voice has been beloved by students and scorned by many of his colleagues in an Academy he has always questioned. This doubt has become an instrument for transforming his thinking; we know that doubting is dangerous, as those in power have always fed us certainties that allow for unceasing adoration, yet never for progress or change.
Antonio Miranda earned his architecture degree from the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid in 1971 and his PhD from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in 1976. In January of that same year, he began his teaching career at the Escuela Superior de Arquitectura, where he became a Professor of Architectural Design in 1994. He served as Director of the Department of Architectural Design at the same school between 1990 and 1994. He has served as co-editor of the journal Arquitectura (published by the Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Madrid) and editor of the journal Planos (published by the ETSAM Department of Architectural Design).
