Philip Ursprung

Philip Ursprung, Dean of the Department of Architecture at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, presents two essays in this Docs: "Representation of Work" discusses, through authors such as Harun Farocki and Guy Debord, the invisibilization of alienated labor at the foundation of the current economic model, arguing that the discussion regarding the representation of work must also be a discussion about the role of architects in society.

In the second text, "Performative Historiography," Ursprung draws on the concept of "performative writing" coined by historians Peggy Phelan, Kristine Stiles, and Amelia Jones—which sought to convey to the reader the conditional and variable nature of an author's perspective—to present his own viewpoints regarding historiography and criticism in general.
