Each month, Friends of Residential Treasures Los Angeles (FORT: LA) curates a new self-guided trail, inviting Angelenos to explore the city’s rich architectural heritage. These immersive experiences highlight significant homes, hidden gems, and the designers who have shaped Los Angeles' built environment.
This month’s trail is entitled The Cecil Gale Charmers and is curated by Stacey Ravel Abarbanel. The Cecil Gale Charmers trail map explores the enduring legacy of prolific Los Angeles developer Cecil Gale, who built more than 1,000 homes in Santa Monica and beyond between the 1930s and 1950s. Known for his distinctive Spanish Colonial, Monterey Colonial, and Tudor Revival designs, Gale’s homes are celebrated for their charming details—ornate archways, intricate plasterwork, stained glass, and picturesque gables—offering a glimpse into the architectural elegance of mid-century Los Angeles.
The complete map and associated research is attached to this email, and the trail is free and available online at www.fortla.org.
