International Competition: "Towards an Emotional Architecture"

The Arquitectura Film Festival Santiago, ArqFilmFest, celebrates its 6th edition inviting filmmakers and creators all over the world to participate in its international competition, with films that establish a relation between cinema and architecture looking for the most diverse point of view.

Today more than ever we live in alternate realities that are projected at cinemas, videogames, the metaverse or any screen that allows us to connect with people that are geographically on the other side of the world from us. With frontiers and dwells growing more mobile and diffuse everyday, the ways of living and being in the world change, as well as our bonds. How do we inhabit these changes?

WIth that thought in mind we extend the invitatión to participate with films that justify its relation with an emotional architecture. Participant films must be dated between 1st of January 2018 and 20th of May 2024, the selected films will be exhibited in one of the three sections of the competition: International Competition of Feature Films and Medium-length Films, International Competition of Short Films and Architectural Record.

The selection of the winning films will be done by a jury of renowned figures of the architecture, cinema and critique scenes in Chile. ALso, the Red Interamericana de Festivales de Cine, Ciudad y Arquitectura RIFCA (Interamerican Network of Film, City and Architecture Festivals), constituted on 2020, will make a special mention to the best emotional architecture film.

The ArqFilmFest will be receiving submissions until the 30th of August 2024 and the selected films will be published on the festival website 7th of October of this year.

The final selection will be exhibited during the 6th edition of the festival, to be held between the 28th of November and the 7th of December 2024, at Sala K and Cineteca Nacional de Chile.

The Arquitectura Film Festival Santiago

ArqFilmFest was born in 2012 as the first architecture and film festival in Chile and Latin America. With five successful editions, the last one of them done online during the pandemic, returns this 2024 to inaugurate its second decade as a space of reunion for creators, professionals and enthusiastic inhabitants, all interested in being part of a community that explores the intersection between film and architecture.

Cinemas and architecture have a deep conection, where space and time meet to activate our emotions. This edition of the festival invites to explore how the architecture can evoke memories, hide stories or connect people with their surroundings in a significant way. It is a call to be moved through the architectural experience, as much as on the screen as out of it.

This project is financed by the Ministerio de las Culturas, las Artes y el Patrimonio through the regional Fondart, in the line of Organización de Muestras, Ferias, Encuentros y Festivales, calling 2024.
