In designing the Calipso luminaire, Scottish product designer Neil Poulton has broken completely new ground. The characteristic honeycomb look is the result of a creative process that used the factor of chance to create a unique product. Neil Poulton had a photograph of the moon modulated by the image processing algorithm of a vintage computer, creating a fractal shape of unusual geometry that reflects the irregular beauty of nature within it.
Calipso consists of an organically shaped honeycomb, composed of tubes of different diameters, seemingly randomly arranged. This structure characterizes the lamp both aesthetically and visually. Not only its design is unique, but also its uniform light emission suitable for the workplace.
The result is a highly emotive lighting object that combines design and technical intelligence. Calipso is suitable for a wide range of applications - in private as well as public environments.
