About the biennale svizzera del territorio 2024
Both calls originate from a collective curatorial idea to critically explore the theme Back to the future. Our biennale presents itself as an expression of international interest that brings to the attention of the public new perspectives of investigation of the natural and built territory, from the landscape to the Baukultur. biennale 2024 theme: The future has been erased. Imagination, exhausted by successive crises, continual innovations, and immediate returns on investment, collides with a closed horizon; Drunk with nostalgia, any long-term vision has been dismissed as utopian, a mere fantasy - until one collides with dystopia. Yet architecture's overriding task has always been to deal with the future: we still experience structures built decades or even centuries ago. Where have we lost our way? The fifth edition of the biennale svizzera del territorio (Swiss biennial of territory) is a call to imagination. A call to reclaim the future and to design together alternatives to the slow unfolding of the present.
Istituto Internazionale di Architettura, a center of urban culture dedicated to the exploration of issues related to the territory based in Lugano, Switzerland, hosts and organizes the event.
Calls and updates on guests and programs can be consulted on our website: https://www.biennale.i2a.ch/en.
