World Sustainability Center / Studio Shift

Studio Shift’s proposal for the World Sustainability Center in , Netherlands offers flexible environments to accommodate an educational conservation facility for both students and researchers, as well as the general public.  The strong geometric complex emphasizes different connections on the macro scale, by relating to other major metropolises, infrastructures, educational facilities and park systems, and the micro scale by fusing its own new “sphere of influence” with its immediate community.

Milano Stadt Krone 2030 / Studio Shift

Studio Shift’s Stadt Krone proposal is one of twelve that offers a conceptual solution for the densification of . The proposals were required to inject 25,000 inhabitants into the existing urban fabric of , and Studio Shift’s proposal addresses the strain that this increase will have on the existing infrastructure and the social and economic well-being of the population. Their comprehensive strategy creates “a self-sustaining community and one that seeks to integrate programmatically and physically with the existing city.”

Retail Center / Studio Shift

Studio Shift’s newest runs along the riverside in , and its position allows it to capitalize on the naturally cleansed waters of the South Lake area.  The center creates a significant public space with a direct connection to the water so the complex becomes a destination for relaxation and water-based recreation due to the favorable climate.   Retail is arranged such that equipment for various watercrafts, which can be launched directly from the rental facility, line the channel while restaurants and a cafe sit along the pier.

Sports Center / Studio Shift

Studio Shift’s 3,000 seat in County provides a multi-purpose venue to accommodate sporting events such as badminton, table tennis and basketball.  The main center is connected to smaller venues that feature a 200-seat tennis court, a diving/swimming pool, and several badminton and table tennis courts.  To unite the disparate collection of venues, an undulating metal roof encapsulates the program and defines the external boundaries of the building as it wraps down towards the ground plane.

Aquatic Center / Studio Shift

California-based Studio Shift completed their concept phase of a new Aquatic Center in the of .  Expected to be completed in the spring of 2013, the center will connect adjacent public infrastructures, such as a riverfront promenade, as a circulation system which will become “the connective tissue linking the disparate program elements and site edges, ultimately, delineating the overall programmatic organization of the structure.”

Taiwan Center for Disease Control Complex / Studio Shift

Studio Shift received an honorable mention for their design of the Taiwan Center for Disease Control.  The complex, which fuses public landscape with scientific research, is poised to be one of Taiwan’s most important scientific centers.  ”The complex will set a new standard in laboratory and research facilities design, paralleling the work that will inevitably take place behind its walls,” stated the architects.

Miyi Tower and Master plan / Studio SHIFT and SWA Group

The Los Angeles based team of Studio SHIFT and SWA Group has been selected to create a master plan for the , a developing area in .  The plan consists of SHIFT’s Miyi Tower that aims to promote the region’s heritage, and SWA Group’s design for a sustainable promenade.
