Mosque Proposal / StudiOZ

By — Filed under: Religious Architecture , , ,

StudiOZ designed a mosque in in memory of Sinan, the architect because historically, the Turkish mosque reached its highest potential under his design. Using a single dome placed upon a square form, Sinan created a metaphor of the mosque being the most stable form to symbolize  infinity.  Hundreds of years after Sinan, the mosque typology is still viewed as an indispensable component of Turkish life.   For the ’s proposal, “The Mosque” criticizes this holy and public place by reforming benefits to urban space, symbolically and functionality of the building.

Capilla para el Tio / Visiondivision

By — Filed under: Architecture News ,Religious Architecture , ,

Visiondivision never fails to share interesting projects with us, whether it be their zoo/waterfall or their latest – a chapel for Tio, an evil devil that owns a mountain in . As unusual as it may sound, miners in are faced with awful working conditions inside a mountain, and claim that Tio is responsible for claiming the 8 million lives that have been lost within the mountain.  The project is a shrine to Tio, and will serve as a place the miners can leave gifts for the devil so he does not harm the men working in the mountain.

Dove of Peace / Sunlay Design

By — Filed under: Architecture News ,Religious Architecture , , , ,

Beijing Sunlay Design Office designed a Protestant Church in Inner Mongolia that takes its inspiration from the land’s topography.  Set on top of a hill of Ordos, the scheme, entitled “” gives its metaphor and poetry to the church by re-interpreting a contemporary and abstract silhouette of the bird carrying an olive branch.  Made of and with the facades finished in white crepi,  the church’s form follows the adjacent curved road that crosses the site. “The dialogue between the outside and the inside space is emphasized by the play of shadows and light that creates complexity and depth in the reading of the space.”  Delicate streams of light reflect harmony and tranquility, providing the perfect atmosphere for prayer and contemplation.
