Frameless glazing from Aestech was installed in the renovation of the stained glass windows of Flatbush Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn. Built-in 1898, the Gothic-style church is a landmark in the Flatbush neighborhood. Acting as a focal point for residents the historic building houses galleries, co-working spaces, cafes, shops, art studios, and other initiatives.
Glass Solution
The new windows required a specific solution. The original stained glass windows hold significant historical value and aesthetic to the structure. The architects wanted a solution that offered both the correct aesthetic and protection from the weather and vandalism. The supporting work was performed by PARITET and Inovia US who are official representatives of Aestech on the Atlantic Coast in the US.
Traditional solutions such as tempered glass or acrylic could not be used as it would affect the aesthetics of the building. Another proposed idea was to use arched aluminum structures with an external glazing bead, however the the mounting depth would have created a protrusion and the windows incline was too small.
The selected solution was the frameless glazing technology from Aestech Glazing. This allowed a higher stiffness of glass without the need for a frame and supporting elements. They also can be attached at any angle to the building's trim elements. Without the solution from their partners, the historical project would have been impossible.
