Afteroom was tasked with creating furniture designs that were both minimalist and comfortable with a silhouette that was sleek and instantly recognizable. Defined by this ‘less is more’ aesthetic, Audo Copenhagen’s Afteroom Collection profiles honest materials on an elegant collection of furniture with lasting appeal.
The Afteroom Counter & Bar Chair Plus pays homage to functionalism and the Bauhaus school of art. The chair is the work of Afteroom, a young Stockholm-based design studio, founded by designers Hung-Ming Chen and Chen-Yen Wei. Like the original, the stool is deconstructed and stripped of unnecessary components, but now boasts the additional feature of a wider backrest and a luxurious upholstering of both seat and backrest.
Since they were reinterpreted into multiple iterations, the collection’s chairs and bench reveal only the most essential elements of their design. Tubular powder-coated steel legs and a characteristic backrest that extends upwards from beneath the chair seat to support the body are crafted using some of the same techniques used in Bauhaus modernism — steel bending, die casting, and welding. The uncompromising designs with a silhouette that is both sleek and instantly recognizable are available in multiple iterations, each representing the utmost in comfort and style and in fully customizable versions.
