The design for the Mori Hosseini Student Union building creates an exceptional experience for students and an iconic architectural landmark for Embry-Riddle, the Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, USA.
Designed by the prestigious architectural firm Ikon 5 Architects, the Mori Hosseini Student Union is inspired by the flight of birds and creates an ideal space to study, connect, and relax. Inspired by the gracefulness of birds in flight, the student union building at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is an expression of its mission to teach the science, practice and business of aviation and aerospace. Located at the front door to the campus, the building’s gently soaring form expressing flight creates an iconic identity for the University and embodies the student values of fearlessness, adventure and discovery.
The material selection form an essential part of the architetonic expression of this building. The stainless steel 24 GA flatlock panels fabricated by MetalTech and installed by Quality Metals on soffits of the building are part of the core concept of lightness. The flatlock panel soffits compliment the predominantly steel and glass clad exterior, following the gently curved form of the roof and facades.
