Trois-Rivières Amphitheatre by ARCHITEM is a competition entry that is Inspired by the history of Trois-Rivières in Quebec, Canada. The are has roots in the lumber industry and its association with the river. The project optimizes the natural landscape and creates an iconic architectural presence that focuses on the connection to the river. The forest informs the architectural design of the building and its exterior wall, with its use of lace and transparency, recalling the poetry of the seasonal movement of branches. The endless play of light and shade are its inspiration.
‘Trimo Urban Crash’ has announced its winners from this year’s installation competition which challenged students to design a public architectural installation for Nove Fužine, a specific residential neighborhood in Ljubljana, Slovenia using Trimo materials. The theme for this year is: The Life Stand – an architectural intervention which is more than a tribune for watching games or events. It is a point of interaction and inspiration for inhabitants and visitors of all ages, interests and social standing, and simultaneously offering an answer to complex architectural and social questions common to many European urban residential areas with its original and well-thought out approach.
The Sino-Danish Centre for Education and Research (SDC), designed by Henning Larsen Architects in Copenhagen, is devoted to Chinese-Danish collaboration. Otherwise known as the Swan Building, the new SDC reflects a vision to develop Danish presence in China. The Swan Building is a distinct landmark with a unique Danish identity on the new GUCAS campus as it combines Denmark’s national bird and self-perception and the Chinese perception of the swan as a symbol of ambition.

It unlocks a the potential to bring new audiences into the museum by exposing it to passersby.
Reiulf Ramstad Architects will be hosting an exhibition that aims to explore the questions of this century that deal with the tension between local and global conditions of the natural and the artificial, between cyberspace and realspace, and between stillness and change. Their ambition is to create a contemporary architecture-based analysis of the site, from which emerges a sensitive interpretation of these conditions, paving the way for architectural design.
Nuovo Palazzo Della Provincia di Bolzano by OFL architecture and rabatanalab was born out of the desire to establish an historical continuity between the present and the past in Bolzano, Italy. The study was carried out on the innovative facade system as a new organism that recalls the iconography of the symbols of the city, such as the Duomo, while using contemporary technology.
This year’s ACADIA 2011 Annual Conference, with the support of FLATCUT_, seeks proposals for innovative geometric forms that push the limits of design through the exploration of integrative material strategies for digitally fabricated assemblies. The competition hopes to address the questions that parametric design models are pose in terms of material practice: How does parametric design engage changes scale? How does the selection, tooling, and deployment of material shape the physical environment? How do inventive material pairings work positively and cohesively to produce new forms of assembly and environmental response? How do designers begin to embed parameters that engage concepts of sustainability, augmented performance and material flexibility?
This competition entry for the densification of the surburb of Furuset outside of Oslo, Norway comes from a-lab in collaboration with COWI AS and Architectopia. The goal of the project is toreduce the CO2 emission by 50% by the year 2030, Furuset will be a model project in sustainable urban development by increasing the density of the community with the addition of 2500 housing units and 1500 workspaces.
With a growing and diversifying population, the designers considered the kind of urban plan that is adaptive and stable enough to nurture the growth of the community developing in Furuset. The proposal looks forward to creating a strong identity that forms the framework for a high quality of life. exciting urban spaces, diversity, density and a healthy economy.

‘Why Don’t We Do It On The Stairs?’ is the winning proposal for won the architectural design competition ‘Build What Here?’ organised by the Danish Architecture Centre and Roskilde Festival, to create an architectural design for the Culture Zone at Roskilde Festival 2011. The project is designed by architecture collective Re-Make / Re-Model consisting of Anders Grivi Norman of Oslo, Norway and Victor Serrander of Stockholm, Sweden. The design will be built for the Roskilde Festival and will be featured in an exhibition in the Danish Architecture Centre in Copenhagen opening on the 7th of May.
The new cultural and service center designed by Yaniv Pardo Architects re-shapes the town square while creating commercial spaces, residential units and a concert hall. It provides Holon, Israel with an activated space for culture, leisure and commerce through a diverse range of service that will provide for a variety of activities.
