site plan

This small guest house is located as close to Lake Washington as permitted by code. The structure is elevated above a patio to preserve the flat portion of the site for outdoor use. retaining walls set into the steep hillside provide for an entry courtyard. A roof deck above the main living areas provides the inhabitants their own private lookout towards the Lake. The roof and walls of the structure are clad with a flat-seam copper siding system.

The environment and spaces communicate beautifully here. I especially like the courtyard, where the concrete and natural materials harmoniously express their identities and create a unified whole. I only wish I could hear, smell, and feel this space.

My only complaint is with the angular support gesture most visible on the West facade. This seems like a structurally necessary but reluctant move which ultimately draws more attention than it should. I understand why you may want to avoid heavier materials such as concrete, but those particular angles among a predominately orthogonal design are awkward.

love the cooper and timber – also appreciate the effort of opening up the views under the building as the user approaches the water. the materials will age very nice and compliment its surroundings.

Really nice house, I like the interior as well…

…But I think that the site plan is wrong, It corresponds to “Courtyard House on a Steep Site / Hutchison & Maul Architecture”, if i am right. I say this because I was looking forward to see the complete relation inside and outside.

Otherwise, nice project.

The project seems to me very likely, the only(unique) critique is the design of metallic railing of the terrace and the support, it had been mas boldly and “architecture” dared demolished in this point, the support in two needles formally does not reach to the project
