Planning the End of the World: Indigenous Urbanism and the Art of Refusal

What do we do when “home” is a commodity and homelessness is reduced to a violation of property rights?

In this free public lecture, Indigenous scholar Assistant Professor Heather Dorries from the University of Toronto, reveals how Indigenous knowledge can revitalise our cities while tackling homelessness and community displacement.

Mirroring Melbourne’s housing crisis, Assistant Professor Dorries will explain how Toronto’s over-heated real estate market has made access to housing out of reach for many while simultaneously criminalising homeless encampments (tent cities).

By using alternative Indigenous methods of urban planning, we can move beyond housing as a colonial concept and prioritise living well for all.
