A Paint Company Office Inside a Former 'Robot House' – Located in Yongin City, South Korea, this project transforms a deteriorated residential building designed in the postmodern architectural language of the late 1980s into a new office for Dukwoo PCI, a small-scale paint company. The original structure was defined by its playful geometric forms and circular windows that evoked the silhouette of a robot from Japanese animation. Despite its iconic appearance, the building's aging materials and outdated structure made it unsuitable for contemporary office use.

During such times, even in Shanghai, where the top 1% of the affluent resided, a retail and dining space known as "Green & Safe" emerged. Now, more than a decade later, what seemed novel or extraordinary may be taken for granted, but I remember the first "Green & Safe" store in Shanghai as a place frequented by the Chinese and people worldwide for benchmarking.

The land is a condition with a somewhat stepped view and scent open to the south. Since it is a natural green area, despite the area of large land, the floor area of the house that can meet the needs of the owner is not sufficient. The Dongbaek Wooden House tried to fully utilize the structural and material properties of the heavy timber structure.

The school parents chipped in and managed to arrange a site at the foot of Gwang-gyo Mountain. After studying architecture for a year, the school parents searched for an architect, and eventually, we got to start this project. The site was a natural green area, and therefore, the total floor area was limited to 500 square meters. This project took a lot of effort and time to gather the opinions of all the concerns. There were also other limits for the construction cost, which was insufficient.

From the person next to us or the place they stay, we interact with influences around us. For our client who takes over 70% of their time at the shop every day, we can’t stress more the importance of the environment they are in. We considered that this space should be more comfortable and adorable than anywhere, for making them enjoy their stay, which will result in our clients welcoming customers pleasantly enough. We wanted to differentiate our space from the one distancing from freshness where there are not enough windows and lights, like a department store.

Tribu House by Parnell was created with various purposes. It was intended to be a domestic showroom for high-end European furniture as well as a space to be used as a bakery cafe. The client had a requirement that the furniture display not look like a typical furniture store and be naturally integrated into the building and its interior and exterior spaces. Additionally, the client wanted to implement an architectural style that had not been seen before in Korea, with a high degree of completion. One of the main criteria was the client's aesthetic preference for arched windows. To avoid the design looking like a mere imitation of traditional European architecture with classical arched windows, we made an effort to find a design language beyond this.

3+3+3
This house is a three-story house with three gardens, designed as a dwelling for three generations. The site runs along the range of a small, densely wooded hill. This small hill became the most crucial element when determining the layout of the house. The house was aligned with the shape of the site and placed parallel to the axis toward the hill, in order to draw the hill’s natural flow into the house. Moreover, the end of the sight line, which binds the long-lined spaces together, was always directed toward the hill.

The Nam June Paik Art Center renovation project reconfigures approximately 12,000 sf of the existing museum (about one-third of the publicly accessible area) and provides the public with new ways to interpret, linger, exchange, and inhabit the institution. Experimenting with the idea of “building in a building” and a “figure in a figure,” the project explores the typological approach to appropriate underutilized institutional spaces for more flexible and transformative public use.

A residential space is completed with the accumulation of time and experiences. It can have a meaning of ‘house’ when someone resides in it and can be settled down as a real home only when the time is accumulated. 100A associates concentrates thoroughly on ‘the subject’ who leads time and experiences in it when they design residential spaces. The subject’s lifestyle enjoying the space defines the spacial design.
