This Architecture is located in a place where the nature of the forest and river. It was built adjacent to the existing building, which is an old Japanese traditional wooden architectural style. We designed the Architecture to harmonize with this traditional architecture and nature. A contrast between traditional old wooden structures and modern, powerful structures made of concrete. It was designed with consideration to the landscape, keeping the height low, and along a sloping land.

BIG and Squint/Opera, a partnership between an architectural powerhouse and a creative digital studio, explore innovative methods to convey spatial and architectural design beyond traditional means. They reimagine architectural storytelling beyond static 2D visuals through cutting-edge video production and immersive technology, enabling clients and the general public to fully experience their futuristic visions of city planning and architectural design. Their notable collaborations include the video production for the Toyota Woven City Project and the creation of the VR collaborative design tool HyperForm.

Both the name of the room (function) and the cenesthesia (volume) affect residential architectures. Some are rational but leave the space and living in the rigid and inconvenient relationship. I would like to create the place where the sense of embracement and the laid-back breadth provided by the scale can coexist. For this plan, I decomposed the length, breadth and height that make up three-dimensional shapes, and designed the “width” of the room from the human perspective to give the embracing comfort, and the “length and height” from the landscape perspective in light of the streetscape and the premise. I used 1.55m as the smallest common denominator and the effective dimension for the width of rooms after the numerous simulation of housing lives. Two cubic capacities of 1.55m in width, 13.5m in depth and 8m in height sit next to each other over the T-shaped structure with the joint pillar/beam.

When I came for the first time on this project site, the whole site was covered in the shade. Because there is a 6-story apartment complex is built in the site south side. I propose this project about a relation with the natural light in the shadow place. The north side of the site is hard to be affected by the shade with the apartment. So I planed the space for light receiving in the north side of the building. As for this section plan, natural light comes to be taken in the house

The project is for a mother, a son and his wife with two children living together. All of the adults are holding a job; therefore parking space for 3 cars is needed. The site is in Toyota-shi, which is famous for TOYOTA cars. Without a doubt, ‘car’ is an important part in their lives.

Tanada, terraced paddy field, widely appears to its south and the west. My first visiting of this site was in early summer, three years ago. Bright green and reflection of water of the rice field just after the rice-planting, natural sounds of breeze rusting the leaves of lemon trees and Magnolia figo slightly and sound of running water from the waterway had created comfortable scenery there. It was calm place and there was nothing to cutting off my view from the site.
