Along a major highway, the Yangmei Rest Area has a simple and straightforward program: a convenient store and restrooms. The main design concept is to bring nature and clarity into the overly artificial highway environment. We put efforts to elevate people's ''Nature Calls'' experience in the busy come-and-go scenes commonly associated with rest areas.

We as humans can take lots of inspirations from the natural scenario. During the design process of this project, we initially came up with the idea from a simple theory of the second rainbow, which is a phenomenon that is not often to see. Encouraged by the low-key, misty colour palette, we thought we could use its element into the interior, creating some kind of intimacy between people and colour. Through the invisible power of colours, we hope to achieve a goal of cultivating closer interactions along with opening a dialogue about an ideal way of living for urban-dwelling residents.

Trucks and minibuses with loudspeakers drive through the streets, trumpeting loud music, the candidates’ names, and their speeches. Unfortunately, while all the narratives address the city and its good management, most often the spaces of the last are just jammed because of the activities.

The vividness of leisure is demonstrated in the colors and materials of natural minerals, reaching relaxing breaths and coordination. Through the gray lights, more tiny pores can be seen. They are now far and quiet, breathing deeply and joyfully.
