Mike Lim, James Pockson and Roddy Bow met while studying for their master's degree in <a href="https://www.rca.ac.uk/study/schools/school-architecture/?utm_medium=website&amp;utm_source=archdaily.com" target="_blank">Architecture at the Royal College of Art</a> (RCA and founded their architecture practice, IDK in <a href="/tag/london">London</a> in 2019. The three, driven by a strong mission<em>, to help communities and progressive institutions, organizations and cultures thrive – </em>have been researching and delivering community-oriented projects that embody experimental building with a holistic approach. Their work focuses on nurturing social development, with an emphasis on ecological awareness, local material use, smart resource and budget management, respectful refurbishments, and designing only what is necessary without "over-building."</p>]]>

The ultimate aim of the designers is to allow people to "move harmoniously through our vertical habitats of the future."</p>]]>

But for 5000 of its former inhabitants, who have been exiled due to a US naval base established on the island, life is less of a fantasy. In her graduate thesis at the <a href="http://www.archdaily.com/tag/royal-college-of-art" target="_blank">Royal College of Art</a>, <a href="http://www.rca.ac.uk/students/rosa-rogina/?utm_medium=website&amp;utm_source=archdaily.com" target="_blank">Rosa Rogina</a> explores how an architectural infrastructure could cause a shift in the balance of power crystallized within the politics of the island, enabling the resettlement of the displaced community and reversing the damage done to the environment of the atoll while under military control.</p>]]>

        <![CDATA[<p>The <a href="http://www.archdaily.com/tag/riba/">Royal Institute of British Architects</a> (RIBA) have announced the <strong>President’s Medals Student Awards</strong> at a special event today in <a href="/tag/london">London</a>. The awards, recognised as the world’s most prestigious set of awards in architectural education, were inaugurated in 1836 (making them the institutes oldest award, including the <a href="http://www.archdaily.com/tag/riba-gold-medal/">RIBA Gold Medal</a>). Three medals in particular – the Bronze for a Part I student, the Silver for a Part II student, and the Dissertation Medal – are awarded to “promote excellence in the study of architecture [and] to reward talent and to encourage architectural debate worldwide.” In addition to these, the winners of the Serjeant Award for Excellence in Drawing and the <a href="/tag/som">SOM</a> Foundation Fellowships are also announced.</p>]]>
