The concept behind Casa El Arboreto arises from the desire to create an introspective space that remains connected to the surrounding nature, immersed in a forest of Arrayanes and Melíes. The challenge was to find a harmonious balance between the lush landscape and everyday domestic spaces. This balance is achieved through the use of galleries, an architectural resource deeply rooted in Chilean tradition. The galleries allow the diffused natural light filtering through the trees to enter the interior spaces, transforming the home into a showcase of the natural environment; a space that generates feelings of contemplation and refuge.

‘Long, narrow house’ -atwo story house with a gabled roof and a plinth- is located on a hilly terrain overlooking lake Llanquihue and Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes. The married couple’s request included views predominance, sun exposure and interior areas’ versatility and spaciousness, besides the possibility of incorporating recycled native materials and elements with more than one century of age that the owners collected for years in order to incorporate them into their future home. Work was done along with the female owner -an artist-, with whom the interior design and home distribution were shaped. This is the origin of this eclectic work intimately linked to the tradition of the area, the landscape and the owners’ creativity and drive.

Residential house located in Puerto Varas southern Chile. With a rainy oceanic climate with high rainfall, the main environmental strategies respond to promote indoor radiation during most of the year, protect the north facade, which is affected on rainy days by the prevailing North wind, and reduce the heat losses by conduction and convection, considering the low temperatures and humidity.
