El Retiro is a project of extension and attachment from an independent body to a multifamily housing, that serves and transforms preexistence into a productive habitat. The proposal is issued as an opportunity to understand and build specific, viable and productive solutions that attend to the progressive growth of housing, and to take advantage of the residual spaces generated by Ecuador´s policies.

An approach influenced by personal connectivity, spatial efficiency, and light is proposed; where privacy, density, visibility, and connection are intertwined in a space with material honesty. The assignment implied the development of a new work environment for a financial institution located in Guayaquil, Ecuador. The commission was born from the need to spatially solve the interiors (297 m2) with the main focus on its production area. The space had the specification to include meeting areas for staff members, a coffee station, a cafeteria, the main office, service areas, and an operational area, which is a 120 m2 production space.

Currently, after the COVID 19 sanitary emergency, we have found out the communities are resilient, reorganize, and renew the social bonds for protection. The meeting points provide the opportunity to learn how the social dimension in micro-communities is reinforced in times of crisis.

MVRDV has revealed the design for its first project in South America. The Hills is a residential project located on the Guayas riverfront in Guayaquil, Ecuador, comprised of six residential towers displayed atop a mixed-use plinth, creating the image of a valley. The towers range in height from 92 to 143 meters, raising taller the further away they are from the riverfront. The whole composition is inspired by the local landscape that merges the natural and the urban environment.

The first intervention of the Cerro Blanco Protected Forest master plan faces the visitors to the forest magnitude. The design promotes the collective experience of being sitting in the front row. The end of the main axis lets the guide or the teacher the best location to address the audience spread in the two lateral wings. With this action, the viewpoint works as an open classroom for the school groups that visit the forest, which represents the largest park visitors.

Nevertheless, the typology reflects the configuration of a different scale, of a typical city block in central Guayaquil, with back-to-back constructions occupying the perimeter and generating patios on the interior. If we were to remove the divisions, we would have a single continuous building with a large inner patio.

The architectural concept design is based on the hotel itself ... a "low cost" hotel where the length of stay for a weekender, a tourist, or a business traveler is only 9 to 12 hours approximately, where the stay should preferably be simple and based on the fact that hotels provide services that the client does not need, does not seek or is not willing to pay, the program was done; reduce those services to a minimum and save those cost, designing the space of the room taking a 20 foot shipping container measures as reference, optimizing the space, uses, and the election of materials and furniture with a minimalist design... the results were 20 compact rooms of 15 sqm., with the elements and accessories of the highest quality.
