The ground of ‘a pointing hand’ form is seated on the top of the hill in Sangsu-dong area, Seoul. Just as like the name of the region meaning ‘the town above the river’, it is looking down Han River from the top. A cliff of 6m height is dividing ‘the pointing finger’ part above and ‘the hand part below. These differences of narrow/wide and above/below parts in one small ground worked as obstacles from the initial phase of designing already, and the architects should have walked through.

As a result, customized product is generated per users taste. In case of product customizing, typically the manufacturer or craftsman produce products per the client request, but it seem like it is focusing on changing the appearance only.

On the ground level with pilotis is the garage for the building and on one side is neighborhood facility(office). Second and third levels accommodate total of six studio units and on the top level is a double story penthouse. The garage was efficiently laid out to maximize neighborhood facility(office) space that fronts the street. Common stair is located on the north side of the site to maximize sunlight exposure to all units. The six studio units on the second and third levels have leasable area of 20 - 24sq. meters. In planning the studio units, the key challenge was how to bring enough light into the units and yet maintain privacy which may seem conflicting ideas. The idea of having enough ventilation and sunlight seem a farfetched idea in the densely populated multi-unit and multi-family housing areas, not to mention privacy.

The planned site is located in the entrance of Songchu Valley of the foot of Bukhansan. For this reason, many mountain climbers come in and out here from other areas regardless of weekday or weekend. Nevertheless, there is no rest area for village residents, but there are only low wooden benches for customers of restaurants that are built around the trail. In addition, as increasing mountain climbers, it is prospected to accelerate commercialization of this area for example; people have to pay for resting.
