As the gateway of the village, it has an extremely important position in the overall image of the village. How to build a community center that can not only meet the needs of local villagers but also serve as the business card of the village is a challenge for the design.

The project is located at the center of Niumatang village in Liyang. Originally, it was a small grove, and the open space by the grove was where villagers liked to gather and chat. Based on respect for local habits and practical needs, the local leaders decided to transform the small grove into a village assembly hall in the forest, creating a public space for showcasing the village's history and facilitating neighborhood communication and meetings. Niumatang village is a village of Wenzhou immigrants. During our communication with the local property owners, we proposed constructing a public building with distinctive Wenzhou architectural features to respond to the village's unique historical development.

Nowadays, the city’s physical space in which we live is constantly creating new things as our lifestyles keep changing, and schools are no different. Following the continuous development of teaching models, the way of communication between students with other students and teachers has undergone changes as well. As the behavioral patterns of the "miniature society" in schools evolving, the physical space of campus buildings should be transformed and updated accordingly, so as to avoid hindering the development of this "mini-city".

gmp Architekten was recently awarded the first prize in the international competition to build the Culture Center in the newly created Changzhou city center. With a total floor area of 365,000 square meters, the building in this city of three million, between Wuxi and Nanjing, is six times the size of the Louvre in Paris. Reflecting elements of Changzhou’s southern Chinese culture and the city’s prominent water features, their design includes a number of museums such as an arts museum, a science and technology museum and a library, together with service facilities supporting the center for culture in the Xinbei district of the city. More images and architects’ description after the break.
