Designed by <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/tag/philip-johnson">Philip Johnson</a> and completed in 1968, the structure is Johnson’s only <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/tag/museum">museum</a> in Europe. Despite past maintenance efforts, the building remains largely unchanged from its original state. The <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/tag/renovation">renovation</a> aims to modernize the museum’s services, exterior, and interior spaces. </p>]]>

Located in the capital city of <a href="http://www.archdaily.com/tag/riga">Riga</a>, the funding for the €30 million project is a public private partnership with support from from the ABLV Charitable Foundation and the Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation, which co-founded the Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art Foundation. The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia and the Museum’s Foundation signed a memorandum of intent regarding the museum and building on 30 October 2014. The competition, organized in 2015 with 25 first-stage participants, will announce a jury-selected winner in mid-June.</p>]]>

        <![CDATA[<p>A total of 68 buildings have been shortlisted for the 2016 <a href="http://www.archdaily.com/tag/riba">RIBA</a> <a href="http://www.archdaily.com/tag/london" target="_blank">London</a> <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/tag/awards">Awards</a>, including projects from <a href="http://www.archdaily.com/tag/john-mcaslan-partners/" target="_blank">John McAslan + Partners</a>, <a href="http://www.archdaily.com/tag/drmm/" target="_blank">dRMM</a> Architects, <a href="http://www.niallmclaughlin.com/?utm_medium=website&amp;utm_source=archdaily.com" target="_blank">Níall McLaughlin Architects</a>, <a href="http://www.archdaily.com/tag/eric-parry-architects/" target="_blank">Eric Parry Architects</a> and <a href="http://www.archdaily.com/tag/rogers-stirk-harbour-partners/" target="_blank">Rogers Stirk Harbour</a>. All shortlisted buildings will now be visited and carefully assessed by one of four regional juries, and regional winners will be considered for a RIBA National Award. The shortlist for the <a href="http://www.archdaily.com/tag/riba-stirling-prize/" target="_blank">RIBA Stirling Prize</a> - given to the <a href="http://www.archdaily.com/tag/uk" target="_blank">UK</a>'s best building of this year - will be composed of the winners of the <a href="http://www.archdaily.com/tag/riba" target="_blank">RIBA</a> National Award. </p>]]>
