The project aims to not only expand the existing campus but also to create a unified identity for the institution, one that ties together all the architecturally significant buildings on site. The winning proposal is primarily a mass timber structure inspired by <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/tag/maine">Maine</a>’s communities, history, and culture.</p>]]>

The 52,460 square meters complex aims to make science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) more accessible through specialized amenities, educational programs, and interactive experiences. The building is expected to open in 2027, which also marks the 50th anniversary of the Science Center and aligns with the <a href="https://www.greenplan.gov.sg/?utm_medium=website&amp;utm_source=archdaily.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Singapore Green Plan 2030</a>.</p>]]>

        <![CDATA[<p>Four teams have been declared the finalists in the <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/tag/competition">competition</a> to design the <a href="https://www.portlandmuseum.org/finalists?utm_medium=website&amp;utm_source=archdaily.com" target="_blank">Portland Museum of Art</a> campus expansion located in Portland, <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/tag/maine">Maine</a>. The finalist teams are led by Adjaye Associates, Lever <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/tag/architecture">Architecture</a>, <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/tag/mvrdv">MVRDV</a> and <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/tag/toshiko-mori-architect">Toshiko Mori Architect</a> + <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/tag/johnston-marklee">Johnston Marklee</a> + <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/tag/preston-scott-cohen">Preston Scott Cohen</a>. The project includes a 60,000 square feet expansion in the form of a six or seven-story structure planned to accommodate an increase in the number of visits and a growing collection of art. The museum is now asking for <a href="https://www.portlandmuseum.org/finalists?utm_medium=website&amp;utm_source=archdaily.com" target="_blank">public feedback</a> on the designs, as the projects are on view at PMA until December 11<sup>th</sup>.</p>]]>

The design is the first of two ZHA projects commissioned by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani for <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/tag/lusail-city">Lusail City</a>’s integrated community master plan, which when complete will become Qatar’s first and largest sustainable city, providing entertainment, employment and accommodation for up to 450,000 residents and visitors.</p>]]>

The 375,000 square foot building is designed with three goals in mind: reduce energy, resources and consumption, incorporate high performance buildings materials and systems and harvest renewable energy sources available on the site. Currently out to bid, the project is scheduled for completion in mid-2014.</p>]]>
