A structure built from marine plastic waste – This is a retail facility adjacent to the EXPO 2025 (Osaka, Kansai) Arena. Since the Expo site was constructed on coastal reclaimed land, it was proposed that an architectural structure be built by upcycling marine plastic waste. Marine plastic pollution severely impacts ecosystems worldwide and is recognized as a shared global issue. The aim of this architectural project is to promote the concept of a circular economy at the Expo site, where visitors from all over the world will gather. The building, including its foundation, is designed for easy assembly and disassembly with plans for relocation or reuse as furniture after the Expo concludes.

Floating above the Park: A Stage-Like Campus Where Students Play the Leading Roles - The project involves the construction of a new campus for Tokyo International University on the site of the former Tokyo Mint Bureau in Toshima Ward. The project site is situated in Ikebukuro, known as Theater City, which has a vision of becoming an international art and culture city. It is located on the boundary between the city center, including Sunshine City, and the low-rise residential area to the south. With the idea of preserving the academic ambiance unique to the university campus and bringing in the lush, open atmosphere of the adjacent disaster prevention park (IKE·SUNPARK), we created a campus featuring a stage-like design with the second floor as the students' base.

A triangular school building creates various unique places—a new approach to school building design. When designing a school building, it is common practice to arrange rows of classrooms along a schoolyard and connect those rooms by corridors. Since the modern school system was established in the Meiji Era (1868-1912) and buildings categorized as school buildings emerged in Japan, many such building plans have been produced throughout the country. The diversifying educational needs in recent years, however, have given rise to circumstances where different types of school buildings are required.

A Refreshing Terrace with a Large Roof for Connecting the Company with the Local Community—Environmental Architecture Embracing Japanese-style aesthetics and Shading. Nestled between Osaka and Kyoto, Takatsuki is an area steeped in Japanese culture. Surrounded by residential areas and close to railway stations, it's a bustling corner where many people pass by. Here, we planned the construction of T-LINKS, a recreational facility for a pharmaceutical company. This facility is to be used primarily for recreational activities by employees and for regional events. In the event of a major disaster, the facility will collaborate with Takatsuki City to serve as a temporary evacuation space for nearby residents and people who are unable to return home, fostering a connection between the company and the local community.

Handing down memories and shaping an outdoor culture - The project site, which is located on the north side of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, is the former location of the Hiroshima Civic Stadium, a symbol of post-war restoration. Working with the joint venture selected through the Park–PFI (Park–Private Finance Initiative) program, we formulated a policy of turning the former ballpark site into a place to stimulate activity—a place that creates lively daily activities and stimulates people to go out by shaping an outdoor culture (Osoto Bunka) for enjoying outdoor activities while handing down the deeply marked history of the site to future generations.

KANEKA Wellness Center is Kaneka Corporation’s welfare facility, which also functions as a medical facility. With its corporate policy including “wellness first,” Kaneka places importance on the reform of employees’ workstyles and their healthcare. In this facility, medical care and regular medical check-ups are provided to Kaneka’s employees, and various activities will be held to improve employees’ health awareness. In its construction plan, TAISEI DESIGN Planners Architects & Engineers provided the design, which used various environmental technologies developed by Kaneka under the supervision of Kengo Kuma & Associates.

The goal of this project was to revitalize a large urban park that has existed for many years in the Sakae district of downtown Nagoya, Japan's third-largest city. In addition to the redevelopment of the park after around 60 years of use, a new "Park-PFI" system was adopted in which commercial facilities were also constructed using private capital, with these facilities being operated for a fixed term (of 20 years) together with the operation of the park.
