The Sydney Opera House is a world-renowned architectural masterpiece, but by 2012, it was facing a series of problems, including end-of-life theatre machinery, poor acoustics, and accessibility issues. To address these issues, SOH CEO Louise Herron announced a "Decade of Renewal" leading up to the building's 50th anniversary in 2023. ARM Architecture was appointed to the Concert Hall Renewal project, the last and largest of the renewal projects, commencing design work in 2015, with the Hall reopening in July 2022.

The McGrath Family Performing Arts Center at Loyola Academy is designed to promote Jesuit educational values and to inspire the creativity and imagination of students. Conceived in close collaboration between school leaders, students, and the design team, initial project development focused on understanding common goals through Ignatian pedagogy. In early design meetings, the client leadership posed fundamental questions: “How can the theater bring the Jesuit mission to life? How can it transform the campus and contribute to an enlightened academic experience for all students?” Crafted to intentionally resist easy answers, these questions drove the team’s architectural response and became the foundation for the success of the project.

The 150,000 SF masonry-clad school for 1,350 students includes twenty-two classrooms, science labs, computer labs, art, and music suites, a gymnasium/auditorium, as well as various health and fitness-related rooms. The school has been programmatically conceived with two distinct wings in mind which interact volumetrically to give the building its unique character. The east wing holds the common elements of the program such as the gymnasium/auditorium and cafeteria, and the west wing hosts all of the academic functions and required support and administrative spaces.

Used for both instruction and performance, the building welcomes students, faculty and staff during the day and theatergoers at night. Emphasizing openness and transparency, the building puts the excitement of a theater education on view for the neighborhood. The five-story building is a composition of rectangular forms clad in limestone, translucent glass and transparent glass. Projecting from the building at the corner is the Sondra & Denis Healy Theatre, serving as a sign for the university. The north façade softly glows at night, a beacon for the Theatre School. The new design re-balances car-pedestrian traffic creating a city oasis where people can eat, drink and meet.
Ballet Memphis had outgrown its current space and wished to move to a thriving performance arts district in the heart of the city with a one-of-a-kind facility. The company’s new home opens up to the community with large windows and public courtyards between the studios. The two-story building houses practice space for Ballet Memphis’ professional company and classrooms for youth and community dance instruction. The building is intended to engage the public in dance, movement, wellness, self-discovery, and connection.

Gordon Parks Arts Hall is bracketed by the two symmetrical neo-gothic towers of Belfield Hall at the north end of the University of Chicago Laboratory School’s main campus. The 1904 limestone façade of Belfield is reflected and re-interpreted in a muscular form in the Arts Hall, a visual dialogue of the 21st century with the 20th. It is symbolic of the evolution of Lab Schools’ values over time and the commitment to “present art as a language with unique expressive powers,” integral to the school’s ambitious educational mission.

The new music and communication building is located just south of Northwestern University's Pick-Staiger Concert Hall and Regenstein Hall of Music, on the southeastern edge of the Evanston campus. Sited on a prime parcel fronting Lake Michigan and a new arts green, the building is envisioned as a signature facility. Designed to wrap and connect with Regenstein Hall, the building enables the School of Music to consolidate its programs for the first time ever.
