New Zealand’s favourite shopping centre, Sylvia Park, with its wide selection of retailers complemented by entertainment and dining options, has already become a destination in itself. The addition of the first commercial office building on site supports the centre’s ambitions to transform into a metropolitan town centre. A master planning exercise determined the site for the first of several planned office buildings. ANZ Raranga is located close to the mall’s heart, ‘The Cone’, and extends the existing restaurant precinct westward.

Following eight years of design, development, and construction, Safdie Architects is nearing completion on its latest project in China: Raffles City Chongqing, a vibrant complex which combines office, residential, hotel, retail, and recreational facilities across a 22.7 acre site, embedded within the densely developed Yuzhong district. Situated at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers, the historically significant site was once home to the city's most important gateway and the imperial entrance to the city: Chaotian Gate. The area was also Chongqing's foremost riverfront trading post which has traditionally driven development in this inland city, catalyzing its evolution to become one of the world's fastest-growing and densest cities with a greater metropolitan population of over 30 million people.

As the new heart of Flinders University’s Bedford Park campus, the Student Hub and Plaza have reinvented campus life. Located in Adelaide, the design created a new entrance to the campus, providing a dynamic precinct for students, staff, and the wider community. Delivering a contemporary tertiary education environment for Flinders University, Woods Bagot designed a diversity of spaces designed for active learning. Significantly improving visual connections and pedestrian permeability through the plaza, the design activated the central core of the campus by drawing students in.

The “Ginza” typology originated from Japan where space is limited in the dense urban environment and retail and restaurants spaces have to develop vertically. The tower is located on the vibrant retail Tang Lung Street and has a corner facing Canal Road with a flyover above. Hence the facades of the tower become highly visible from the highway traffic and pedestrians alike. Portions of the building enjoy sea views and mountain views.

The new campus design signifies a highly linked & connected institution. It looks into the compact urban condition of Hong Kong itself for direct inspiration and epitomizes a miniature city, dense and connected. The spatial organization maximizes density by stacking multiple slab blocks of different programs vertically on top of each other over a podium of communal activities, including a number of lecture theatres and a gymnasium. A folded vertical Student Boulevard rises to form a 3-dimensional street network in the air that weaves and binds the different blocks and levels into a connected whole. From the Boulevard, students can gain free access to a series of sky gardens and roof decks of various scales on different levels: turfed green lawn sloping towards the sea, student plaza & mini café etc., all afforded with magnificent sea views and lively atmosphere.

A meaningful engagement with nature was the driving thought behind the conceptualization of Seletar Park Residence. Upon arrival at the site, the entrance is lined with mature rain trees, greeting the visitor almost ceremoniously before the space extends onwards to open into a clearing embraced by the surrounding terrain. This theme is recurring and impressed – preserved in the design to create a home that first welcomes and lateroffers experiences with nature. Providing a backdrop of simple elegance, the fine edges and sharp lines of the rectilinear forms break down the massing of the blocks while offering a textured fabric through repetition of frames, sun-shading ledges, façade fins and trellises. Rigorous in its application, this fabric lines the site boundaries, forming a canvas onto which a central landscaped court is strongly expressed.

Te Oro is a creative facility for young people from the communities of Glen Innes and Panmure. Te Oro emerged from the community itself, supported and funded by Auckland Council. Its purpose is to encourage the creativity of local cultures, both as performers and to impart knowledge; and to create a sense of pride and identity as a catalyst for social renewal. The design process was open and collaborative, involving local artists, cultural advisors, mana whenua, environmental and landscape specialists and the community itself, empowered to make every design decision possible.

A peek preview into SCDA's most recent luxury high-rise residential project in Jakarta, the design of Arzuria sales gallery reflects the main development’s clean lines and sculptural form. Housing an exhibition space and sales offices, as well as two fully furnished and fitted-out typical units, the gallery spans over two levels connected by an origami-inspired, blackened steel staircase.
